Why owners call us

A California Impressionist specialist for your Rose

We know his work

The gallery has sold Rose's California coast oils on canvas, painted between about 1915 and 1919 at the height of his California years. Both appear below.

Confidential from the first call

Your inquiry about a Rose stays private. We don't publish who owns a painting or who buys it, and we don't circulate it without your consent.

More than one way to sell

The gallery purchases, consigns, sells and advises on California Impressionism, so we can offer an outright purchase, a consignment or a private sale for a Rose.

The process

Selling a Guy Rose, step by step

  1. Photograph it

Photograph the full front and back, plus the signature. Note any Giverny, Carmel or Laguna title, or a label on the stretcher.

  2. Private evaluation

We consider the subject, period, medium, size, condition and history of the Rose.

  3. Discuss the options

A Guy Rose can be bought by the gallery, consigned or placed with a private collector. We help you weigh which suits it.

  4. In-person viewing

For a significant Rose, or a collection of California Impressionist works, the gallery will arrange an in-person viewing.

Who buys Guy Rose paintings?

Rose's buyers are collectors of California Impressionism and of American Impressionism more broadly, along with institutions. He is one of the few native-born Californians among the leading plein-air painters, and one of the most thoroughly French-trained: schooled in Paris, and living for years at Giverny before returning permanently to California in 1914.

His work runs from early figure and salon paintings to the Giverny landscapes and the California coast subjects of Carmel, Laguna and La Jolla painted between 1914 and 1921. The right route to market depends on what you own. A dealer who knows the field can tell you whether your painting is best bought outright, consigned, or placed privately.
