Sell your Guy Rose painting

Here is how Steven Stern Fine Arts handles a Guy Rose, from your first email or call to a completed purchase or consignment.

What to send us

Good photographs answer most early questions. Please include:

  • the whole front, photographed square-on in even light;
  • the entire back, including any title, place name, date, stamp or label;
  • the signature and date on the front;
  • the dimensions of the image area, not the frame, and whether it is on canvas, board or paper;
  • what you know about the painting's history: family ownership, purchase records, exhibition or dealer labels, earlier appraisals.

Please don't clean or reframe a Guy Rose before we see it. Original frames and old gallery labels can matter for his work.

How we evaluate a Rose

Evaluations are confidential. The gallery looks at authorship, period, subject, condition, provenance, exhibition history, literature and importance within the artist's work. For Rose, the place often tells us a great deal, since his French and his California subjects have different histories, and his career was cut short by a stroke in 1921.

Your options

  • Outright purchase by the gallery.
  • Consignment, with the gallery offering the painting to its clients on your behalf.
  • Advice and private sale for important single works, estates and multi-artist collections.

Seeing the painting

Steven Stern Fine Arts works with Rose owners nationwide from Los Angeles, and travels to view important Impressionist paintings.

Have a Guy Rose to sell?

A Giverny garden, a Carmel or Laguna coast, a La Jolla view or a figure: tell us about it. Photographs of the front, the back and the signature are the best place to start.
